American Tec Co. Ltd. (Amtec) is a leading integrated supplier of electronics equipment and services in the field of SMT machines, testing machines and semiconductor back-end packaging machines for production. Its distribution network covers China (mainland & HK), Singapore and India.
In an interview with Debasish Choudhury, Hiromori Toyokawa, CEO, American Tec Co. Ltd., HK spelt out company’s future plans during his visit to India earlier this month.
GSP: American Tec Co. Ltd. (Amtec) is one of the pioneers that has been distributing SMT equipment and providing total production solutions to customers in China for over 2 decades. When did you set up office in India?
American Tec started its operation India in May 2005. Our corporate office is in New Delhi, and our branch offices are in Bangalore, Mumbai, Pune and Chennai.
GSP: Tell us about your major product offerings for the Indian market.
We represent Fuji Pick & Place machines, DEK Screen Printer, Vitronics Soltec Reflow Oven, Vi-Technology AOI, Shimadzu X-Ray and Nutek Peripheral Equipment.
GSP: American Tec is considered as Fuji's most successful distributor in China. How do you fare in Indian SMT market?
Although Amtec India is establised not long ago, we have been developing the market aggressively and strongly. Now, we are moving up the ladder to become the 2nd largest distributor in India. We will not stop here, but to exert to approach the next tier.
GSP: You represent over a dozen companies in India. Amongst all these companies, which principal(s) drives your business in India?
FUJI, DEK, VITRONICS SOLTEC are our main principals.
GSP: A no. of leading SMT distributors are setting up application labs for in-house training and process support for their customers. Do you have one in place? If not, how do you tackle this issue?
We already have two Demo Centres in Shenzhen and Suzhou, China. In India, we are in the process of opening a Demo Centre in Chennai by the end of this year.
GSP: Another leading SMT distributor based at HK is planning to launch operation in India this year. How do you see this development?
The India market has been growing steadily, so naturally more distributors would like to enter now. We foresee the market will expand further with entry of new players.
GSP: What are your strengths vis-a-vis your competitors?
We have a team of well qualified and trained service engineers together with Product Specialists. We also have back up support of expert engineers from China, in case of any critical process support. Our knowledgeable technical expertise and good customer support is our key strength.
GSP: How many customers you serve in India? Can you name some of your major customers?
HT: Amtec serves a wide range of customer base in India today, for example, Sanmina-SCI, Honeywell, Magneti, etc.
