Telecom Equipment Manufacturers Association (TEMA) awarded the telecom vendors for their contribution in Indian Telecom Story on the eve of World Telecom Day.
“TEMA has been playing an active role in the development of telecom sector” said Hon’ble Union Minister of Communications & IT, Govt. of India Thiru A Raja. He was speaking while presenting the 2nd TEMA National Telecom Awards for manufacturing by TEMA. “I suggest, TEMA to come out with suitable measures to incentivise private telecom operators to encourage indigenously manufactured equipments” he further added.
“I am sure TEMA would put in it best to accelerate the exports and indigenous manufacturing in the country” continued the Hon’ble Union Minister. Thiru Raja recalled launching the TEMA export promotion council saying that before 1984, both Teleom service and Telecom manufacturing were under the department of Telecommunications and IT. The central PSU’s namely ITI and HTL had been meeting the requirement of Telecom equipment. “From these times and now the government has changed and how now we have large number of units manufacturing large range of equipments”.
The Minister said that he was happy to note that indigenous manufacturing is of the order of Rs 26,000 crores (US$ 6.5 billion).

Mr. Rajendra Prabhu was given the lifetime Achievement Award For Journalism In Telecom,
Congratulating the awardees Thiru Raja said “TEMA needs to be complimented on its initiative for awards in Telecom. I congratulate each and every company who have got the awards today and wish them all the best”.
While thanking The Hon’ble Minister for being there Mr. N K Goyal, Chairman Emeritus, TEMA said “this is a small effort by TEMA to recognise the vendors who have played a important role in the development of the Indian Telecom story”.
